| 1 Package of Texas Chili Mix or Three Alarm Chili Mix | Hey, why reinvent the wheel? Either of these mixes combine the basic ingredients necessary for good chili. Chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, garlic, salt and various spices. |
| 1.5 lbs. of hamburger | Brown on stove. |
| 1 12 oz. can diced tomatoes | I prefer Hunt's Diced Tomatoes. |
| 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce | Again, go with Hunt's. |
| 1 12 oz. can kidney beans | These are tough to choose. There are a number of brands. Basically, you want beans that won't go soggy on you after 8 hours in the crock pot. |
| 2 jalapenos | Chop finely. Here's a trick. Know that little tool you have for peeling carrots? Cut both ends off of your jalapeno, then use the tool to core the thing. It works great, and keeps the seeds out of your chili. |
| 1 medium onion | Dice. |
| Pinch of Habanero | This is the stuff that really makes the chili. It's hotter than a jalapeno, but it has great flavor. Experiment to get the right heat, but be careful! |
| 1 Package Longhorn Style Colby Cheese | Grate. Mmmmmmm! |

Gregg and Mary's Almost Homemade Chili
Here is the recipe for our award-winning chili. I can't take credit for the entire recipe because I use starter kit, but so what - it is still pretty good.
